It is through muscle confusion that you will be able to build muscle at a lightning fast pace. The idea behind muscle confusion is that when we do the same type of “work” over and over again, our body gets used to it and is able to adapt in such a way that it makes that type of “work” easier. Our ability to make exercises easier, the more we do it, ultimately diminishes the effectiveness of that exercise.

So how do we stop this workout routine breakdown? By always changing our routines of course!

Ideally, you shouldn’t do the exact same set of exercises for more than 1-2 weeks at a time before changing them up. You know the old saying that “variety is the spice of life?” That saying also applies to training. I realize that you may find it difficult to sit down and figure out a new muscle building routine every few weeks, but really, you don’t have to.

To get maximum effect from the muscle confusion concept, all you really need is to work out 4 separate workout routines and cycle through them. As long as you give your body a good break from a specific training set, you will always be able to return to it without risking the breakdown I mentioned earlier. Now, when you actually do your exercises, you want to train until you reach the point of muscle failure. Basically, it’s the point where you can’t do one more repetition of a given exercise. You’ll also want to integrate cardio directly into your strength training program instead of keeping it completely separate. This saves a lot of time and will make it much easier to commit to an exercise plan.
