Well, fasting is certainly not a new concept. Since the “beginning of time” it has been associated with weight loss and even today people believe it is an effective way to lose some of that extra fat quickly. However, the main question remains the same. Is it really an effective way to lose weight in the long run? Well, the answer to that question can be very complex. When one does not eat for a period of time, it is quite natural that he or she will lose some weight. This weight loss occurs because our body requires a certain amount of calories, on average per day, to its daily activities. When we consume fewer or even no calories, the remaining necessary calories must be taken from the stored “junk energy”. But in that case, our body goes into a survival mode, where only the minimum amount of energy is used for a given activity, to ensure that the stored energy lasts for the maximum number of days.

If you look at fasting as a solution to losing weight, then anyone can be successful over a short period of time. However, over a long period of time, our body is bound to suffer, and numerous health hazards will sneak up out of nowhere. So it is not recommended to fast solely for the purpose of losing weight.

On the other hand, fasting could be a good way to clean up our digestive system. Remember that the weight loss during fasting is only a byproduct of the digestive cleanse, which will be replaced with healthy nutrients when you resume a normal diet. Therefore, in any case, dieting should not be the main purpose of fasting.

In conclusion, we can just reiterate the fact that fasting is not considered an ideal solution for losing weight. This is because there are more disadvantages to fasting than its benefits in the long run. There are many diet plans that help in reducing your weight and are considered much better than fasting. You have to do your own research and find a plan that also respects your health.
