Electric Bicycle Can Definitely Be An Exercise Tool to Help For Stroke Prevention

The globally respected Mayo Clinic has an interesting article on its website about stroke prevention where cycling is listed as a recommended aerobic exercise to reduce the risk of stroke. This article made me think about how realistic it is to ask people to participate in aerobic exercise that they will continue to participate in and not get discouraged and stop. The logical answer is electric bikes.

We have all heard of ways to reduce the risk of stroke:

– Do not smoke or use illegal drugs;

– Drink alcohol in moderation if at all;

– Consume a lot of fruits and vegetables;

– Achieve and maintain a healthy weight and control diabetes;

– Reduce the amount of saturated fat and cholesterol we eat;

– Control high blood pressure; and

– Exercise regularly.

It is regular exercise that I want to focus on in this article. Not only exercise but aerobic exercise reduces the risk of stroke in several ways. Aerobic exercise can lower blood pressure, increase high-density lipoprotein (HDL, or “good”) cholesterol levels, and improve the overall health of your blood vessels and heart. This exercise helps in losing weight, controlling diabetes and reducing stress. The Mayo Clinic recommends working out for 30 minutes — such as walking, jogging, swimming or biking — on most, if not all, days of the week.

This is an aggressive challenge for people who are not used to exercise regimens and especially not used to aerobic exercise. This is where I think electric bikes really come into play. Each person is different in establishing an exercise routine that suits their way of setting habits and goals. Some people need a plan that details the type of exercise, specific days and times, and ways to track results. Others need to be flexible and just set general goals for the week and get the results they need without all the specifics prepared beforehand. Regardless of the type of person, the same success depends on a variety of cycling, walking or swimming, to get 30 minutes of aerobic exercise, 4 to 5 days a week.

It can be very scary to think about just 15 minutes on the bike and think how intimidating then 30 minutes ride seems to be an inexperienced rider. Electric bikes can provide a great solution and make tasks easier to obtain and more enjoyable. If people enjoy exercising they will be more likely to continue the exercise. Electric bikes usually have three options for the rider: pedaling only; power assisted pedaling; and just riding. Maybe schedule walking and biking on alternate days. Electric bikes give you three options and give you the confidence that if you’re tired you can get home. In addition, if you are concerned about your health, e-bikes give you back-up riding so you don’t have to worry about health issues. No pain, no benefits can be reinvented with an electric bike that is less painful with all the benefits!
