Joovy Kooper Stroller Review – A Lightweight Stroller That’s Big With Parents
I don’t think I’ve ever started a product review by pointing out what’s wrong with the product. I try to be objective and to the point…but I also try to be kind. In the following review, I take a different tack, although I’m still kind, I have to tell you that Joovy Kooper is completely wrong.
In my opinion, the problem with the Kooper is not an umbrella stroller but compared to an umbrella and not a standard size stroller but compared to a standard size stroller. The parents, Kooper stroller owners who provided input for this review, whether they knew it or not, have defined a new product category. I don’t know what this category is called but, in summary, the Kooper looks good, light, safe and stable… It’s not light or compact like an umbrella stroller, and it has no bells and whistles. which you usually find in standard strollers. Apparently, Joovy has built Kooper for parents who need between ‘umbrella’ and ‘standard’. Hm, maybe I spoke too soon, maybe there is nothing wrong with Joovy Kooper. Let’s take a closer look.
Joovy has built Kooper with all-aluminum tubing, it has a very large canopy that can be adjusted for either maximum visibility or maximum protection.
The main feature that makes the Kooper stroller unique is the wheel system. Kooper has four large pneumatic wheels that can be removed for transport and storage. So even though the Kooper is bigger than an umbrella stroller, it folds down into a compact form factor – perfect for travel.
Another feature that helps the Kooper stand out from the competition is the multi-position seat cushion. Rarely do you see umbrella strollers with this function – parents adjust the recline angle by simply loosening or tightening the strap on the back of the seat.
- Easy to fold
- Easy to transport and store
- Great protection for your child… protection from sun, wind and rain
Who uses this stroller?
- Parents who want stability and comfort and compactness
- Parents who want a maneuverable product
- Parents are willing to pay more for high quality
What is good?
- A large canopy
- Detachable wheels
What doesn’t work?
- There is no automatic locking mechanism to keep the folding stroller secure
- The handle of the Kooper stroller is not height adjustable
- Joovy Kooper weighs 18 pounds. This is on the heavy side for an umbrella stroller.
Should you buy a Kooper?
- You should buy this stroller if you are looking for a high quality stroller that is built to last.
- You should buy a Kooper stroller if you want a portable stroller that is as comfortable as a larger standard size stroller.
- You should buy a Kooper if you want a stroller that looks good as a stroll.
Should you ‘not’ buy a Kooper?
- You should not buy this stroller if you are looking for a light and compact umbrella stroller.
- You should not buy this stroller if you are looking for standard size stroller features such as a child tray, child cup holder and/or if you are looking for a stroller with a larger underseat storage basket.
Another stroller to consider
- Maclaren Volo – The Volo is a well-built umbrella stroller produced by a top stroller company. Like the Joovy Kooper, the Volo has a reclining seat.
- Maclaren Techno XLR – In addition to sporting many great features, the Techno XLR is compatible with a variety of infant car seats.
- The Graco Ipo Stroller is an umbrella stroller with many great features. What sets an IPO apart from the rest is the price tag. The IPO costs less than an umbrella stroller – great value.
Joovy Kooper is not as light as an umbrella stroller but it is softer and safer… Kooper does not have as many features as a standard size stroller but it beats standard size strollers when it comes to weight, maneuverability and compactness. The folks at The Stroller Shop absolutely love Joovy products and recommend Kooper to parents looking for a new stroller category – somewhere between ‘umbrella’ and ‘standard’.
