Ketogenic Diet Menu For The Beginner: Understanding SKD, TKD And CKD

3 Types of Ketogenic Diets

A ketogenic diet is a low-fat carbohydrate diet with adequate amounts of protein in the food. It is further divided into three types and depending on the daily caloric needs, the percentage varies. Diets are often prepared in ratio levels such as 4:1 or 2:1 with the first number showing the total amount of fat in the diet compared to the protein and carbohydrates combined in each meal.

Standard – SKD

The first diet is Standard or SKD and is designed for individuals who are inactive or lead a sedentary lifestyle. The meal plan limits the dieter to eat a net of 20-50 grams of carbohydrates. Fruits or vegetables that contain starch are limited from the diet. For the diet to be effective, one must strictly follow the meal plan. Butter, vegetable oil and heavy cream are used to replace carbohydrates in the diet.

Target – TKD

The TKD is less strict than the SKD and allows people to consume carbohydrates even if only in certain portions or amounts that will not cause the current ketosis.

Cycle – CKD

CKD is preferred for people who are weight training or doing intensive training and not for beginners because it requires the dieter to stick to the SKD meal plan for five days a week and eat/carbohydrate. two days later. It is important that dieters follow a strict regimen to ensure that the diet is successful.
