Running – A Week Off and Lost More Weight

After a week off from my running program, I’m back to training. The weekend didn’t go as expected. My running continued, but the distance I ran was drastically reduced. Instead of increasing my daily mileage, I cut my mileage down to 1/3 of my last long run. In this case, my mileage was only 2 miles.

I took this time to push myself to add another dimension to my training. Now weightlifting is part of my training. I have to say lifting weights is easy, as a beginner I need to learn how to lift, very little weight used.

The idea for the next 8 weeks is to develop great form while lifting. Great form reduces the chance of injury when the weight is heavy enough to cause injury.

When most people lift weights for the first time, they are surprised at how much they can do. Well-rested muscles can lift much more the first time. A problem that many people don’t know about is soreness after lifting weights for the first time. The pain is enough to keep most people from lifting again.

Not lifting again because of pain is not how a person should start weight training. This may be more difficult for guys than for women, but the first two weeks should be the lowest weight you can lift. Work on using good form throughout the lift each time.

The best part about weight lifting is the long-term calorie burn. Building muscle is always great for keeping your body healthy, but even if you’re doing nothing, muscle burns more calories than fat. After your workout, you can sit on the couch and continue to burn calories at a higher rate throughout the day if you sit on the couch all day.

After a few weeks, you’ll start to notice that your clothes look a little different. Muscle is denser than fat, so your weight may not show up on the scale at first.

Halfway through week 2 of weight training, I looked in the mirror and noticed that I looked lean and athletic. I hopped on the scale and noticed I had lost another 3 pounds. Muscles began to appear in places that were previously covered only by soft tissue.

I think we will increase the weight by 5 pounds next week.
