Diets, Belly Fat, and Exercise – 5 Stupid Simple Things I Can Do

How many people struggle with weight? Count me. Forty pounds must disappear. I love exercise, but overeating kills me. Belly fat is my enemy because that’s where most of the weight is. I have the best American beer gut and I don’t drink beer, or any other alcohol for that matter.

I’ve read enough diet books to last a lifetime. I just read a new one the other day, looking for that miracle cure and easy way to lose weight. There is none. Dieting is hard. Staying is getting harder.

I was one of those blinding-light moments in the middle of the latest diet tome. I decided that in order to lose the weight I always wanted, I had to make a decision to do five clear things:

1. Stop eating junk food, especially sugar and high fructose corn syrup, and processed foods. At least, cut way back on him. Do not drink alcohol.

2. Go for fiber in fruits, vegetables. nuts, breads, and cereals. Avoid carbohydrates that are low in fiber.

3. Go for protein throughout the day to keep your body from feeling hungry pangs, and to stimulate your metabolism. And, eat 5-6 smaller meals, and never, I mean NEVER, skip breakfast.

4. Stop drinking coffee with a lot of caffeine, which I am very addicted to. At least, reduce the way to only drink half a cup at a time, and change the green tea often. Caffeine does stimulate the appetite.

5. Exercise every day doing things I like, including racquetball, climbing the stairs at work repeatedly, mountain biking, skiing, walking, and lifting dumbbells.

It’s all about habit. It’s really hard to change the way you’ve been doing things for decades. And, to do that, and continue to do it, is even more difficult. However, I stopped drinking alcohol, so if I could do this, I could do this: lose forty pounds. I kept thinking how much better I would look, feel, and perform on so many levels, not to mention be able to live again. I have a lot to live for, that’s for sure.

Losing weight is simple: eat less and exercise more. A light bulb went off in my brain the other day and I gave myself a dose of manly direct talk: “Don’t look for someone else to lose weight for you! He and nobody. You have to do it yourself. and for yourself.” So I’m not making any resolutions, I’m just going to try and gradually change the way I do things. You want to lose everything right now, right away. However, hunger and starvation never work. And, it usually causes you to gain weight, as if your body is retaliating against you for losing weight. It hurts, but it’s true.

I want to give a big shout out to Weight Watchers and other diet programs and support groups that are very successful. Anyway the work is all that matters. While my mind can be very flawed when trying to run alone, I just give it what I think mad will work for me. I have decided to do my stupid-simple program, calorie-counting be damned. Maybe it will work, maybe it won’t. However, I have high hopes and motivation, so I make hay while the sun shines.

When there are pills out there, and others that are being developed as we speak, plus very risky and expensive surgery to help lose weight, I just don’t allow myself to go that route. Of course, he saved a lot of people, and I salute him. But, I just have to be me, and do it my way. Oh, and I definitely don’t want the dreaded diabetes. Did you know that losing weight can be a cure for the disease in many cases, but not all? Yes, it works.

So, I just thought of 5 simple things you can do to lose weight. I’m not getting any younger, and I want to enjoy my precious little moments. Why not get in the best shape of my life? It can certainly be done. This is officially my new hobby.
