Insanity Workout Vs HIIT Training – A Must Read!

Most people have heard of HIIT training, which stands for High Intensity Interval Training. This method of exercise is said to produce amazing results in a short period of time. No need to spend hours in the gym. However, sometimes it is difficult to design a HIIT training program that is easy to follow. If that’s what you’re looking for, Beachbody offers a similar workout, Insanity, by Sean T.

The Insanity training program is a 60-day (exactly 63) boot camp, like a workout. Based on HIIT training theory, Insanity uses intervals to move your heart rate up and down. However, Insanity differs significantly from traditional intervals in one key way. In a traditional HIIT workout, you do short bursts, such as 50 yards or 30-second sprints, followed by 2-3 minutes of active rest, which is usually a walk or slow pedal. With this type of exercise, the heart rate rises quickly and then falls slowly. For example, when I do traditional HIIT workouts, I do sprints outdoors. I run 100 yards and walk 300 yards. At the end of the sprint, my heart rate is 170 (beats per minute). By the end of a 300-yard walk, my heart rate drops to 100. Not bad, but could be better.

With Insanity, intervals are about 3-4 minutes long and consist of exercises such as push-ups, jumping jacks, sprints, jumping jacks, and many other athletic exercises. A lot of the moves remind me of high school sports. After the break, you rest for 30 seconds. At the end of 30 seconds, the next interval begins! Insanity basically took traditional HIIT training and turned it on its head. Now comparing the heart rate again, my heart rate is higher at 170 during the Insanity interval. I drop it down to 150 with 30 seconds of rest. See the difference. My heart rate stays elevated for longer periods of time, which helps me burn a ton of calories. At the end of an Insanity workout, I have no dry clothes.

Now understand that insanity is not for everyone. You must be mentally and physically ready to put your body through 63 days of extreme work. Great results don’t come easily. Both Insanity and traditional HIIT workouts help reduce body fat. If you don’t think you can handle the insanity, start with a traditional HIIT workout to increase your cardio endurance. Once you’ve trained your cardiovascular system to handle intervals, you should be ready to challenge Insanity!
