Apple Diet – Does It Work?

Any time I hear about a fad diet that people have been trying to lose weight by eating anything but one food item my radar for nonsense is on high alert.

Usually this diet has you eat food items for one, two, or even three meals a day for a day or two in a row, followed by one light meal a day.

The problem with this method is that we as humans cannot get 100% of the vitamins and nutrients we need from just one food source. We evolved over time by eating thousands of different types of food, and it takes the best part of each one of us to digest what we have eaten.

Now this does not mean that the Apple Diet is a failure and will not help you lose weight. Here’s how…

The Time Is Right for Apple

Asian women use certain tricks to lose weight and maintain their weight, and one of these tricks is to eat an apple before dinner (dinner).

My own Chinese mother used to make my sister and I have at least half an apple about 20 minutes before dinner, she called it a “treat”, but in reality she was telling me what her Mother had taught her before about diet.

By eating an apple before dinner, you get healthy fiber and calories. This has two effects that make you feel more satisfied and less hungry when you sit down to eat the main meal, so you eat less, and you will also eat more slowly because you will not go crazy from hunger.

You eat less, and you eat more slowly, both of which allow your body to better absorb the calories you consume without exceeding your metabolism’s ability to burn those calories for energy. Just a simple act, one apple before dinner, can cause you to eat between 200-400 less calories at dinner … which in a month means you save between 6,000 and 12,000 calories that you would eat!
